Jennie Lynn Johanson has taken her background in handbags and fashion design and successfully applied it to the children’s industry to become the founder and president of the Bumble Collection™, a company specializing in fashion-forward diaper-bags and accessories.

Johanson’s history in fashion began at the young age of 12, where she created her first designs from colored pencils and a sewing machine, which made its debut on “picture day” of her fifth grade class. This original creation gave birth to her dream of becoming a fashion designer and one day owning her own company.

Johanson’s solidified her interests in the field by graduating from Fullerton College with a degree in fashion design, textile design and history of costume. During this time she also attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) for accessory design, while also working with a well-known designer in handbags.

In 1999, on the surface of her kitchen table she created her first line of handbags, and soon thereafter found herself selling these bags at local craft fairs and boutiques. Before she knew it, she was spending countless hours at the kitchen table trying to fulfill her orders by hand-sewing her collection of handbags.

One of her favorite memories was dropping off an order at a local Los Angeles boutique and having actress Sarah Michelle Gellar purchase one of her “corset-styled” handbags directly from her packing box. 

Johanson continued making women’s handbags until 2002, when a Los Angeles celebrity approached her to create a fashion driven diaper bag to be featured on a daytime television talk show. This unique request propelled Johanson into the children’s Industry after discovering a void of fashion-forward products in the children’s marketplace; specifically in the area of diaper bags.

Soon thereafter, Johanson created Bumble Bags™, a designer line of diaper bags featuring exclusive “one-of-a-kind” prints, special stain resistant fabrics with unique design touches never before seen in a diaper bag. Johanson was able to draw from her experience with handbags to not only create fashionable items, but use her knowledge of fabrics to create durable products.  Since 2002, Bumble Bags® has grown into one of the major diaper bag manufacturers and leaders in the industry. 

Johanson is set to embark on a new venture for her career as she has recently launched The Bumble Collection™, an umbrella company that will allow further growth into other areas of the children's industry. The Bumble Collection is a full service company and will for now consist of three different product lines including Buzz, Bumble etc., and of course Bumble Bags. This broad expansion will provide new lifestyle products with a fashionable edge.

Although Johanson has come a long way from her days of colored pencils and a home sewing machine, she is living proof of a designer who has been able to translate her vision to the fashion industry. She hopes to continue bringing her products to mom’s who believe that the post-partum period is no exception for fashion.
